I have no love for Mr. Jackson, he was a great military leader but his treatment of the Cherokee Indians was genocide.

I think that Andrew Jackson was the second President who was elected in large part based on his military record SGT John " Mac " McConnell. In his case he was the here of the battle of New Orleans which actually occurred after of Treaty of Ghent but before news that it occurred reached the USA. It is interesting that as the champion of the newly formed democrat party he was a strong supporter of slavery which was a "plank" of the democrat party since its founding through the civil war.

SGT John " Mac " McConnell, President Trump was here in Nashville yesterday (15MAR17) to commemorate and honor President Andrew Jackson. He laid a wreath on Andrew Jackson's tomb, which is located at The Hermitage, Jackson's plantation home, about ten miles east of Nashville.
We've toured it a number of times.
