Donald Trump is an enigma. To be fair, he is a fascist only to those who don't really understand what fascism actually is. His opponents simply use "fascist" as a pejorative. Its application to Trump is no more appropriate in most cases than that other "f-word" refers to a sexual act. Personally, I don't trust him and can't understand why anyone else would. Whatever he has said that may be appealing, he "trumps" by saying that everything is negotiable. Maybe that's the key to understanding his campaign: He's not trying to be elected President, he's simply selling his book "The Art of the Deal".

CPT Jack Durish - Captain; I find that the same thing that you say about the use of the term "fascist" can be said about the use of the term "liberal" (and the use of the term "conservative" for that matter).

COL Ted Mc - I stopped using "liberal" a long time ago. Personally, I feel that I am a liberal in that I love liberty. Those who are typically associated with it these days are quite the opposite. "Left" and "Progressive" have much more functional meanings. "Liberal", as you say, is thus used as a pejorative, without regard to meaning.

CPT Jack Durish - Captain; I really wish that there was a recognized term for someone who was a "social liberal and fiscal conservative". Someone whose position was "You don't tell me what to do (unless I am actually doing something illegal) and I won't insist that you do what I want." and "OK so you've got my tax money - now spend it WISELY and EFFICIENTLY.".

The closest I cam come is "rational".

There's just a lot more about Asia and China that you don't know or understand and is why President Trump was endorsed by so many retired and enlisted military officers, because of this enormous threat of socialism and communism coming from China and Russia that threatens everything the USA stands for in this world. They've taken everything away from us and our ability to create manufacturing jobs. The USA manufactured the greatest products the world has ever seen and it's all been completely destroyed by NeoCons and Leftists, not to ever be confused with true Conservatives and Liberals. There are people that have sold their souls to the banksters, corporate communists and globalists that President Trump nor the Military want to be involved, because it's all destroying this great nation and if we continue down this course we are going to lose everything that makes this nation great and like no other in the entire world and they want nothing more than for you people to forget and not realise that fact. Yes, the United States Of America was built on Roman Fascism, not to ever be confused with other forms of fascism that we've seen in more recent history the Mussolini described as Corporatism, which is not anything like the Roman fascism, but more like socialism and communism in the way that everything is entirely owned by the banksters and corporations or by the State and not by individuals as capitalists.

Ouch, someone just twisted my tail again, not surprising it is another WP opinion piece by none other than Michael Gerson. Much if not most of this particular screed are the same old bromides dished out by the establishment politicians and ideologues who are nearly going out of their minds with fear that DT will take over the WH and bring an end to their era. Maybe so, maybe not, but the intensity of name calling and subjective fear-mongering insults at DT and common people who do support some of his views are reaching new lows, appealing to even darker elements of base mentality. A revolution is never a pretty thing, and DT is only the tip of the spear in the side of the establishment old order political system in this great country. Whether DT is blunted remains to be seen, but there is much more to come.

I agree and the mudslinging at the supporters has worked in two ways, those who already support trump will vote for him again. And there are a few on the left that are so sick of the mud slinging they did their own research and found out that trump was loved by the left until he was elected. That epiphany opened their eyes and they swallowed the red pill with a bit of crow. #walkaway
