SSgt (Join to see) this law may actually backfire and produce the opposite results of what is intended. The law that South Dakota state senators gave final approval Tuesday requires state government, school boards, counties, cities and other local governments to interview armed forces veterans who meet the minimum qualifications for job openings. If for instance 200 veterans are qualified to apply for 10 positions that would mean 2000 interviews would be required. The business rules would probably still require the agencies to consider all applicants which would delay the process to actually hire somebody.
Thankfully the population of SD is low. If this bill were applied to California, NY, Texas or Florida government hiring would probably slow to a stop because the system would be overwhelmed with barely qualified applicants having to be interviewed for each position.

I was in a position to hire. I had as many as 50 applicants for a position. I reviewed the applications and then interviewed the top of the bunch.
Why should I have to interview all 50? Or the one is 50th place just because he/she is a vet or a certain race, or a certain (whatever)?

I like this, but it goes against my principals. If i do not want to interview someone, why should i be forced to?

TRS(Seps&Taps) is great introduction to the resume process but I feel it's not enough time to properly educate people transitioning out of the military.
