It does not surprise me that few countries in the world treat prisoners well. I personally believe that any form of torture is wrong. If someone wanted to waterboard (or any other torture), a prisoner in my custody, or expressed a desire to do so once the prisoner was not in my custody, I would die before I allowed it to happen. I realize that my unit, allies or civilians may suffer for that. But I value that principle as high as I do the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. That is part of what should separate us from them. I do not think you can underestimate the value of the moral high ground. Also how much longer would you fight on if you believed that you would be tortured or killed in enemy custody. We will never no how many lives are saved because safe surrender is a possibility.

Maj John Bell - Major; Not only that, but "torture" simply doesn't work all that well and is notoriously unreliable.
