I don't see how anyone can come to the conclusion that Cruz supports veterans. Setting his campaign rhetoric aside, all one can do is look at his personal background and his voting record to see the truth.
1. He has never served in uniform.
2. He hasn't sponsored any legislation that actually benefits the veteran community.
3. He has voted against virtually all legislation that actually tried to benefit the veteran community.
4. He has voted (or abstained from voting) against virtually all defense-related legislation.
5. He was very supportive of sequestration, which greatly impacted (negatively) the DoD and the VA.
The only evidence that he actually "supports veterans" is his campaign rhetoric. I don't listen to rhetoric; I look at actions, not words. His actions indicate, to me, that he is someone who is simply pandering in order to get votes.
If someone is looking for a GOP candidate, and they vote primarily based on veterans-related issues, Cruz should be at the absolute bottom of their list. Any of the other remaining GOP candidates would be a better choice. Either they have been supportive of veterans, or they have no record to judge. Both of those options are better than voting for someone who has a clear record showing that he hasn't been supportive of veterans.
