I see this kind of a rate hike as nothing more than a targeted tax hike. And, that hike targets people who have already served an entire career as a means to help fund the military. Why do politicians and bureaucrats get away with doing this kind of crap?

Earned veterans' benefits continue to be targeted while un-earned social welfare benefits are considered untouchable. My explanation? Demographics and social shifts. Veterans represent a tiny voting block in comparison to Medicaid and other welfare recipients, and the social ethic has shifted from "what's best for the nation" to "what's best for me."

I am just jealous that retirees have the ability to voice their feelings and have formed relatively effective interest groups to fight these yearly proposals. Meanwhile, the currently serving are muted and I feel like we are taking it on the chin.

When I was in, Ret 06, there were many organizations that represented the rank and file in the military. Non-commissioned officers association or something like that is one I remember (almost). The commissioned officers had several too.
