Awesome, I look to the day when it doesn't matter whether or not the spouse is or isn't gay.

Gay, straight, other, who gives a crap? What about spouses supporting their military partner? Why is gender and sexual orientation involved?

It matters only as a "first" type of thing. It makes news because it hasn't happened before. The Golden 13 were a big deal. Our first female Master Chief was a big deal. Next time it happens, it is simply a regular event.

It's only a big deal because people MAKE it a big deal.

I agree; and I would prefer it happen, and be a big deal, rather than not happen at all because it would offend someone to make it a big deal. It isn't really my place to judge whether or not it deserves an article- having no experience in media- but I don't think it is particularly news worthy at this point. Maybe if it were right after the repeal of DADT, but these days, I feel the "Gay Sailor" part could have just as well been left out of the header.
