A Preview of Fundraiser but first:
The Veterans Flag -The What and Why behind it.
We will be introducing a Veterans Flag in the days and weeks just ahead of us. We have been asked "Why are we doing this?" and "why a Veterans Flag Now?" During our time in service, we served under the same Flag regardless of branch of service - The American Flag.
One thing I have promoted and advocated strongly about is collaboration among Veterans, Veterans Groups and other individuals and organizations who provide services to Veterans. Along with that we believe that Veterans need to be recognized as Veterans as a whole, not based on era or conflict served in. There are Veterans banners for Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts as well as the Cold War and past wars. Looking around, there is no Flag or Banner that can be presented or flown identifying all of us as Veterans or Families of Veterans.
The Veterans Flag is being created to represent ALL Veterans and Veterans Families, regardless of when they served. Part of what it stands for and the why, are in the following two missions below:
Unity - To provide a visible means of unity for all Veterans, and their families. We all need to stand together, united as brothers and sisters as we did while in the service.
Hope - Proceeds from the sales of this flag and other related products will go into programs that provide direct services to Disadvantaged Veterans and their families as well as Gold Star Families; from all eras. Private Programs that provide food and clothing for the needy and homeless, Housing programs for the homeless, employment services, PTSD treatment programs and services, disability services, entrepreneurship programs just to name a few.
Programs supported will be carefully selected, and others may be developed within our own organization. Providing hope for not only our Veterans, but individuals and organizations who may be small...but doing big things.
This is only the beginning....
