In my time at the legal office and with honor guard I want to share two key points.
1) It's standard practice in the Air Force legal system to have your desire/wishes, as to military honors, stated in your will if you decide to have JAG draft it for you.
2) Ensuring your family has access to your DD214 and will is crucial because the honor guard unit can't support a request without a 214 and the family may not even know what the service member wanted without the will.
