This story reminds me of a time when I was on the Emergency Rescue and Fire Fighter team at work. Every year we went to A&M fire and rescue school for training. We were used to practicing rescue and fire fighting at refineries and chemical plants. One year when we went to A&M, the first project was a house fire and smoke inhalation rescue. We were lost as a goose in a snow storm, fighting a house fire. In a chemical plant fire, you work your way into the fire to shut off the fuel source. In a house fire, there is no fuel to shut off. It is attacked totally different than a chemical fire. In 1967, I went to the Detroit riots in downtown Detroit. Being on guard duty, patrolling, capturing criminals instead of enemy in a fire fight, is also totally different in a large city than in a jungle or rice paddies. It's as different as night and day. So, the training this Marine General is warning that more training is needed in large cities is warranted. It's a totally different world in large cities.
