"Big Foot did not come into my camp to-day as promised and I started for him this afternoon." –Lt. Col. E. V. Sumner, 8th Cavalry 125 years ago this week a series of events led to the converging of a band of Sioux Indians and the 7th Cavalry Regiment at Wounded Knee. This tragic meeting of two polarized cultures ended in the deaths of thirty soldiers and perhaps ten times that number of Lakota in what is remembered today by the public at large, and many historians, as a massacre of innocents. This day 125 years ago... the hunt for Big Foot appeared to come to an end peacefully.

This day 125 years ago... day four of the hunt for Big Foot saw Major Whitside establish his camp adjacent to the the post office where the Pine Ridge Agency road crossed Wounded Knee Creek. [2387 more words.]
