I believe in this 100%. I have experienced it first hand. Long Story Short- late'13 or early'14- My wife and I were out in public and we were approached by an individual (JT) with a service dog named Havoc. JT and I had served together in Afghanistan in '07 but hadn't seen each other since then. He was out of the military now and working in the civilian sector. JT and I hung out and were telling "old war stories". Havoc was sitting on JT's feet a few feet away on my left. My wife was sitting to my right. One particular story (that I don't ever talk about) got me feeling anxious. I felt my pulse rise, my blood pressure increase, and I wanted to get out of there. Havoc must have sensed this because he got up off of JT, walked over to me, nudged my leg, and then laid down on my feet. I wasn't expecting that at all. My wife saw this whole thing go down and immediately said "we're getting you one". I became a believer right then and there.
We were in the process of having our lab puppy (18 months) trained when she died unexpectedly last month. Her and I had an incredible bond and her death crushed me. Now, my wife and I are back on the market for another dog.
