On her first sea trials, the USS Zumwalt helps to save an American life. Will this help lay to rest some of her critics?
So with all the hoola-paloola about the USS Zumwalt's stability, it seems she and her crew missed the memo. They assisted the CG today, on her very first at-sea period (for acceptance trials), in rescuing an ailing boat captain who was suffering from chest pains.
To me, this is an auspicious omen. But I'm a Sailor. We believe in that sort of thing.
What do you think? Does this give you more confidence that this ship can execute her mission, despite all the press about her so-called stability issues?

SN Greg Wright, I know sailors can be superstitious... so, I'd agree: This is a good omen for the Zumwalt!

I "almost" took orders to a PRECOMM once, but didn't realize what I was being offered at the time and turned them down. After talking to many Shipmates over the years who did commission their ship(s) I will now always wonder "what if???"

PO1 John Miller - My first ship out of boot camp (1980) is still in service... (commissioned in Aug 1968)... My last ship was just sold to Bangladesh in Feb 2015 (also commissioned in 1968 - Nov) ...never even thought about PRECOMM...

My first ship out of boot (1992) was commissioned in 1963 as a DLG, reclassified in 1975 as a CG, and decommissioned in 1994. She has been decommissioned so long that the Navy has recycled her name. USS Halsey. Mine was CG-23, new one is DDG-97.

My oldest was commissioned as GB (USN) in 1954... WAGB when I reported aboard. My newest was commissioned in 1979, also WAGB... One has been scraped the other is being used as a parts bin for her sister.
