Both sides are at fault for politicizing this, but I don't think gun control would have prevented this. I also don't think looser gun laws would have either (to some extent).
I think that the mental health of far too many mass shooters has come into question for there to not be a real problem in that arena. It won't solve everything, but nothing does. Addressing mental health issues will help more than anything else.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS I completely agree.
Mental Health issues are viewed as "diseases" by name and meaning. When someone thinks of a disease, they think contagious, stay away from that person. The same is happening to those suffering from mental health conditions that could be treated, better understood, or managed if they were appropriately addressed/recognized.

First thing, Guns do not kill, it is the index finger that pulls the trigger. You can create all the laws you want, you will still get the same result. As far as mental health goes, you can have someone with the stability of a rock and still crack.
When you have an individual that is about to crack, someone would know. Keep an eye on them.
You can't legislate morality.
If you supposedly control weapons or guns. The only ones that will obey the rule of the day is the law abiding citizen.
I would much rather be judged by 13 than carried by 6

I'm digging all of the catch phrases, especially the homage to Ice Cube (I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6) BUT I will have to defer to the Good LCDR. The only thing politicizing this issue does is create more politicizing of this issue (Just like in NASCAR when cautions breed cautions). ALL of our "leadership" need to take a hard and realistic look at this issue and choose the hard right. Otherwise, this will continue to happen, 'round and 'round we go.

the problem is ... who define "mental illness"? they might claim owning a gun is the proof of mental illness . lol Be careful with the power you give to a group of crazy politician. lol

They don't need to pass any more laws. The justice system needs to prosecute the criminals and enforce the laws we already have.

I know I'm probably in the minority about this, but I think mental health issues aren't nearly as much to blame for mass shootings as the public seems to think. Why? Because the vast majority of these shootings occur in gun-free zones.
To put it another way, people may be crazy, but they're not stupid. You don't see these people choosing to go into a police station to do their shooting, or any place where a quick armed response is probable. They deliberately choose soft targets.
Democrats historically have advocated the idea of gun free zones, so yes, Democrats deserve a lot of the blame for mass shootings. Not because they didn't do anything while they were in power, but because the stuff they did was the wrong stuff.
