Obviously, I am not in the Army. However, I currently supervise a SPC that has been on Active Duty for 9 years and the RCP policy has recently been changed. The former policy set HYT for a SPC to 12 years. It was just changed to 8. How would this situation be handled? Would my SPC be discharged, now, being past the HYT point? Or be allowed to complete his enlistment and denied re-enlistment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am referring to Army Directive 2014-03 (Retention Control Points) signed 28 Jan 14 by the Secretary of the Army.
If memory serves me, they should be able to finish his current enlistment and receive severance pay when they leave service, if it has changed not exactly sure. I might also suggest contacting MSG (P) Quick for this answer as well since he is a SME for retention and recruiting.
Good luck for your Soldier and thanks for sharing.
SSG Goicoechea,
My bad, my old memory forgot about you being a career counselor, I should have sent him your way as well, I think MSG Quick is quite busy right now at the USASMA anyway, as I hadn't seen him in awhile, thanks for the step in on this, I have been out of the retention/reenlistment game for about 10 and 7 years respectively.
