Aug 1964 - May 1966
Field Radio Operator
Paris Island for boot camp, Camp Geiger for ITR, 2nd ANGLICO for OJT, Fort Benning for jump school, Little Creek, VA for Naval Gunfire Spotters School, Vieques Puerto Rico to call in live naval gunfire. Transferred to Boston for civilian job and joined H&S 1/25. Volunteered for Vietnam when I realized the reserves were not being called up.

Marine Barracks, Sasebo, Japan
Guard NCO at US Fleet Activities, Sasebo, Japan. Stood main gate and other posts at the sprawling base. Guarded the naval ammunition depot at Hario Shima. Worked corporal of the guard position. Later joined the Drum and Bugle Corps playing cymbals.

Vietnam War
Had orders for 1st ANGLICO but reassigned to 3rd Mar Div due to critical shortage of Field Radio Operators. Was in Comm Plt. Tactical Air Control Party and attached to line companies, 6 months with Mike Company, my best buds. The last 2 months I was made TACP chief.
