Interviewed with the Defense Language Institute (DLI) to determine my language competency and accent. I was one of only three non-native personnel approved to teach German to Civil Affairs units.
After 36 months of instruction to unit members I received an ARCOM for excellence in instruction.
During this time I completed the Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course at the Special Warfare Center, at Fort Bragg, NC. I was the honor graduate.
In September 1985 my Army civilian job took me to Virginia (HQ TRADOC). I ceased USAR participation.

Comptroller Chief
Direct accountability for a $5 million operating budget and a $14 million payroll. The 37th Transportation Group was among the first units in the Army to have a budget due to its similarity with commercial trucking and logistics activities. The Comptroller managed the budget, ensured accurate accounting, presented quarterly reviews for the commander and staff, and supervised a staff of two accounting technicians, a manpower analyst, graphics technicians, and a receptionist.
37th Trans. Gp. used commercial IHC tractors. In spite of timely repair part requests, parts were not available. Trucks were being canabalized to keep some running. My investigation revealed theft of commercial parts at the POE. Evidence was turned over to MP Customs. Perpetrators were arrested, tried, and convicted.
