This Marine was lied to upon enlisting (shocker, right?). Was supposed to go in as a photo journalist but they made me a "payroll clerk." Unhappy with this deception....I tended to do...anything but being a payroll clerk for as long as possible. I managed to keep my rank too although I was often in some form of trouble. (This kept me from being forced to be on "pay deck.") Eventually they did send me to "pay deck" and I was stuck there until my honorable discharge. Love the Corps and sincerely wish I had some mentoring "back in the day" as it would've made a tremendous difference. If you're still active and have some rank, please be the mentor younger troops need. The Corps will be stronger over-all as a result.
