Military Experiences

ROTC Instructor
Platform instructor for MS-1 and MS-2 students; adviser to the Counter-Guerrilla platoon - taught rappelling, patrolling, raids, ambushes, small unit tactics. Freefall demonstration jump injury (broken back) on campus resulted in losing my SF qualifier. Was on overseas orders to 1/39 Infantry, Baumholder, Germany as a new E-7 waiting for his line number to come up. ETS'd and returned to Texas to complete my college training. While at UTEP, joined AFROTC and was commissioned Mar, 1982. Rose to the grade of Capt before being forced out of the service due parachute injury above with 18 1/2 years of service and no retirement.

Light weapons specialist
Conducted unit training; ODA-333 was designated a Combat Swimmer team and was sent to Denmark in the fall of 1973 to go through the Danish Combat Swimmer course at Kongsore Torpedo Station and participated in Flintlock 73. Earned Danish jump wings. Went through freefall and jumpmaster training back at Ft Devens.

Company Adviser
Responsible for advising Cambodian rifle company in the field on training exercises; conducted patrolling classes, ambushes, platoon and company in-the-defense training, basically all phases of infantry combat operations.

Light Weapons Specialist
Mainly pulled ash and trash details on Smoke Bomb Hill. Put in for Jungle School to do worth-while training. Returned from that to receive my overseas orders to Vietnam.
