Installed system software updates. Maintained personnel, pay, and training records and files. Prepared reports and correspondence. Issued identification cards. Provided information on ratings, insurance, transportation, and promotions. Supervised and trained junior personnel. Served as courier for U.S. Mail and Official Coast Guard Mail.

Our service area was along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Bolivar Roads and the Houston Ship Channel up to the the Southside Wharves & Buffalo Bayou inside the 610 Loop and from Freeport in the west to Port Arthur & Sabine Pass in the east.

Right out of Boot Camp I was assigned TAD to the Eagle for an OCS cruise. There were not enough Officer candidates to handle all the lines and sails. We sailed from New London, Connecticut, to Hamilton, Bermuda, and Port Canaveral, Florida. I should have put in a chit to stay on board. The next summer they sailed to Australia!
