Recent Activity  -

Bio

I have served in the U.S. Navy as an aerial photographer with missions in more than 20 aircraft models and as a photojournalist covering more than 1/3 of the Earth's surface. As a civilian journalist (before they forgot how to tell the truth) I was the News Graphic Editor for Knight-Ridder Newspapers and a Watchdog reporter exposing bad government. Family is my greatest accomplishment and gift.

Military Experiences

Jun 1981 - Jun 1984
COMSEVENTHFLT
Photojournalist
As a Navy Photojournalist (NEC8148) I watched for and capitalized on opportunities to tell the story of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps and the Seventh Fleet through words and pictures and otherwise supported public relations efforts within the fleet's area of operations. The duty required me to produce high quality photography and written stories for world-wide, national and local military and civilian publications either as a member of a small group or independently both afloat and ashore.
Aug 1977 - Jun 1980
Photographer and Aerial photographer
I was the station's aerial photographer (NEC 8288) providing all air-to-air and air-to ground photography including aerial mapping, accident investigation, aircraft identification and public relations aerial photography. I also served as a studio photographer and leading petty officer of the shooting crew responsible for making still and moving pictures of activities on and near NAS Pensacola for accident investigations, public relations, awards, medical/forensic photography and just about any other need that arose.

Deployments

(3 years, 1 month)
Jun 1981 - Jun 1984
Seventh Fleet area of operations
Though classified as "shore duty," embarks and TAD assignments kept me away from home quite often, typically for several weeks to several months at a time both ashore and afloat. It was the best job ever. The most notable individual deployment was supporting search and recovery efforts following the Soviet shoot down of Korean Air Lines Flight 007.
