Bio
Gunnery Sergeant John P. O’Donnell enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1990 and retired in December 2012. During his service he was a member of every element/unit type in the Marine Corps (Infantry, Artillery, Combat Logistics, Aviation, Special Operations, Recruiting, and Instructor Cadre). In retirement, he continues to serve in & out of uniform as a County Coordinator for Toys for Tots.

Toys for Tots Coordinator
-Coordinates and supervises annual gift giving initiatives in support of 2,500+ low income/disadvantaged children for Lamar County and Delta, TX.
-Forms committees / teams and develop a plan of action for the community support requirements.
-Manages all budgetary requirements to include fiscal, contracting, in-kind donations.
- Facilitates logistics team and managed volunteer support and supplies such as: ID’s, shirts, hats, banners.
-Oversees drop-off site locations & schedules, transportation, and insurance requirements.
-Leads operation team maintaining schedule of events, assigning support staff, and responding to local inquiries (from the media and/or sponsors)
-Coordinated and reviewed all radio, television, and newspaper schedules, interviews, & appearances.

Operations & Training Chief / Anti-Terrorism Officer (ATO)
He transferred to his final assignment in Texarkana, Texas in July 2010 where he served as the Operations/Training Chief and Marine Corps Anti-Terrorism Officer for the region until November 2012. During his tour, he supported the training and deployment of members of the Marine Corps Reserve and provided liaison to law enforcement, emergency management, and anti-terrorism agencies in the region.

Operations Chief (S3)
In May 2007, Gunnery Sergeant O’Donnell was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 372, Camp Pendleton, CA. He deployed to Iraq in August 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as a Senior Watch Officer in the Base Defense Operations Center at Al Asad Airbase. In this billet, he supervised the security of 17,000 personnel on the largest Marine Corps installation in Iraq. During his tour he was in direct support of the historical visit made by President George W. Bush to Iraq in September 2007. In March 2008, he was assigned Squadron Motor Transport Chief and Company First Sergeant for Motor Transport Company until August 2009 when he took the helm as the unit’s S-3 Operations Chief.
