Served in the Army 1974-1978, stationed in West Berlin. Settled in Washington, DC for the next 16 years and then moved to Vermont. Moved to California in 2020. Wrote books, did military analysis and consulted since I left the military. Started in journalism in 1998. Now a Senior Editor at Newsweek.

Senior Analyst
Very junior intel puke in occupied Berlin. Special assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence; worked on clandestine collection projects, intelligence analyst of Soviet forces in vicinity of Berlin, worked with allied militaries and special projects relating to U.S. occupation duties and Berlin-related intelligence, including closing down Special Operations Field Office (SOFO), per presidential order. Wrote one of the first "all source" intelligence reports from the field.
