Military Experiences
Joint ops training (3 months)
My 1st night on this ship I was tasked to pull security detail for our helicopters. (lowest rank)
This was the 1st Navy vessel I had ever been been on, So I wasn't aware of all the customs yet.
While on security detail I wandered into the RED zone.. (the tiles were red) Some older guy asked what I was there for.. When The realized I didn't respond to "Hey MARINE" - (I'm Air Force) they then chuckled and invited me onto the bridge for a few minutes showing me around. . Next morning on the announcements they said:
"The Captain welcomes it's Air Force brethren but asks that they not make any more detours up to the bridge and RED TILE areas Were Off Limits" Everyone laughed.. AHHH JOHNSON!!
We also got to shoot 40MM of the fan tail.. That was a lot of fun..
Joint ops training (3 months)
Not many AF guys can say they've launched and recovered ACFT from an ACFT Carrier.. I can :)
The 1st time I did recoveries they gave me the Jbar to guide the wire back when the acft landed.. I was really nervous. The guy in the tower ( Boss) kept yelling STAY! STAY AIRMAN! DON'T MOVE" I wasn't used to having acft land so dang lose to me.. It was a rush!
