Hi Shipmates I served from August 1976 until January 1981 aboard the USS Samuel Gompers AD37 I made 2 West Pac's Then was Transferred to The Ammunition Ship USS Flint AE32 which the day I arrived left for 8 months 63 days of that were in the Persian Gulf and back and forth to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean we took on the roll of an AFS multi tasking serving the Battle group who we were attached

Qualified on all ship board watches Boatswains mate of the watch Helmsman in Unrestricted waters and at Sea Detail in Restricted waters Qualified Crane Operator on 3o ton and 12 ton traveler Assault Boat coxswain LCM 80ft 60ft.and coxswain of any small boat replenishment at sea in charge of a RACE station or Operator and pretty much anything to do with ship board sea evolutions or sea detail and vertical replenishment BMs do it all I'm proud to be a Boatswains mate for life . I earned the rights to be called Boats by shipmates

Transferred From my first ship from a crew of 1200 to a crew of 250 what a difference a whole new ball game we were a ship of Bombs and Bullets and a lot of Fuel Serviced the battle group in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean Taking on a roll of being a AFS and spent 63 days at sea During the Iran Hostage crisis straight till we were relieved

Service to the Fleet and Kept Fat Sam up pretty and Running small boats 60 ft and 80 ft landing crafts 40 ft utility boats Cranes 2 30 ton and 2 12 ton travelers plus underway replenishment to sea detail and setting the Anchor to painting the ship to standing on board petty officer of the watch to out on the beach on Shore Patrol duty BM for life
