Military Experiences
Dec 1990 - Jul 1994
Food Services Mess Chief
After the House Armed Services Committee did away with Marine Corps Club Managers (4132) myself and my colleagues were "force fed" into other MOS's. I had no experience in a "institutional environment" i.e. chowhalls. I took the experience I had gained in the club business and applied some of the very same principals to a messhall setting. Before retirement our Messhall had achieved 3 quarterly back to back awards for our facility. We competed against MCB, other 1st Marine Division facilities as well as Schools Battalion. What a way to end my Career in the Corps.
Oct 1986 - Nov 1990
Club Manager
I was assigned to the "Fleet Assistance Program" as a Asst. club manager for a period of 1 year. I was approached by the Clubs Director (LtCol) and the Club MGyst and was asked if I would consider a lateral move into the 4132 clubs MOS. Promotions were good then, and I made the move to become a Marine 4132 Club Manager. Did well managed Officer's Clubs as a SSgt which was highly unusual for the Marine Corps. I was selected because I had a degree in Business Administration that I got while I was stationed in 29 Palms. It was a good fit for me. Got Officer's clubs out of the red & into the black and had a lot of un along the way, both here and overseas.
Sep 1982 - Oct 1986
81mm Platoon Sgt
Weapons Company should have a artillery Gunny for a Plt. Sgt. but none were slated to arrive. The Company sent me to 1st Marine Division 81mm mortar school to learn how the FDC was key to getting on target. As a 0369 did pretty good. I held the billet for 1year 3 months.
Aug 1978 - Aug 1982
BEQ Manager
Upon returning from a 1 year overseas tour I reported MCAGC Hqtrs and I was assigned to manage the SNCO & BEQ quarters for Marines & Sailors. I was also responsible for daily working parties who were assigned to various work details for the day. Once I was promoted to SSgt I was assigned as Company Gunny for A Co Headquarters Battalion.
