Military Experiences
Jan 2005 - Nov 2005
Gunner/Dismount
This was my first real time with an Infantry unit. I must say I enjoyed the leadership, the brotherhood and the fact they took us 80 some scouts from the National Guard as treated us like brothers. I did a lot more with these guys: EOD escort security (Where I earned my PH from a VBIED in Sept 2005), Checkpoint operations, LP/OPs, patrolling, and fighting with the chow hall Nazi every time I cam in from a mission and I had sweat on me..weird hu, only 130 degrees lol. Promoted to SGT during my time with these guys, earned my CAB, ARCOM with a V device and played some flag football. Got the opportunity to work with the CIA and NAVY SEALs very briefly. The worse part was watching the FOBs hallway fill with pics of our fallen brothers, I never got used to that.
Nov 2004 - Jan 2005
Dismount
Mostly worked around the election sites in and around the Green Zone. Did some light patrolling, LP/OP's and I worked in the TOC for a month battle tracking. I did enjoy that, it was an experience to see how HQ worked when I was so used to being in a Bradley all the time. Of course we lost the Brads and went "light" in Baghdad, I earned my Combat Spurs under this command and enjoyed the short time I was attached to them.
Jan 2000 - Jun 2004
Bradley Gunner
Multiple Q's on table 8 at Ft Knox. Most were Q-2's thanks to the fact that for some odd reason I had a horrible time picking up troops. I know that's the one you want to get lol. But a Q-2 was not bad considering most were Q-4-6 shhh don't tell anyone. Plus we had one gunner with crossed eyes and he shot E-town one night trying to hit a Truck that was a mover about 500 yards out. Pretty funny, you had to be there, he had his 25mm max elevated and just held down the triggers, the brad commander just said what are you doing and the gunner said hitting targets. Brad commander said where? the moon? One of the funniest stories I have ever heard.
Mar 1998 - Jun 1998
Cavalry Scout
OSUT training to get my job as a Cavalry Scout. The only MOS I would ever get and ever wanted.
Deployments
(1 year, 10 months)Jun 2004 - Nov 2005
Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
Served as a Cavalry Scout in taskforce Baghdad under 3/8 Cav and 4/64. We did LP/OP's, Recon/Patrols, EOD escort, checkpoints and even opened and closed a gate run by the CIA. (Intern PM of Iraq at the time..Baltimore). Earned a PH, ARCOM with V device, CAB, Combat Spurs, and the usual parting medals that come with an overseas deployment.
Sep 2001 - Dec 2001
Operation Noble Eagle
I believe this was called Nobel Eagle after the 9/11 attacks in NYC, DC and PA. Basically we guarded the armories, air-ports, and some may have been stationed with the TVA watching to make sure no one messed with water.
