Military Experiences

Dec 1984 - Feb 1987
B-52G Radar Navigator
Went back to Castle AFB, CA 3 days before Christmas in 1984 to upgrade to RN. I asked our Ops Officer a thousand times (then an O-4, later an O-8), "Why would anyone be sent out there on 22 December???" (The answer was "Because this is SAC and you go when and where you're told"........Well, after arriving back to the 4017th CCTS, where only one A1C was on duty in the entire squadron to answer the phone, I was told to "come back in January"! Immediately began a 48-hour journey home to Virginia for two weeks of Leave.
Oct 1982 - Dec 1984
B-52G Navigator
Navigator and Instructor Navigator. Arrived at KRME during the transition from ASQ-38 to the OAS/ALCM interface IOC. The flying schedule was a "mess" due to all of the fuel leaks from the wing tanks as a result of the installation of the ALCM pylons and controls. Spent a LOT of time in the brand new, Singer-Link WST down the street from the squadron, the command post, and Life Support.
Jul 1982 - Oct 1982
Student Navigator
B-52G Initial Qual, ASQ-38, 4017th Combat Crew Training Squadron.
Feb 1982 - Jul 1982
Navigator
Advanced Navigator Training and Navigator-Bombardier Training. Grid Navigation, Celestial, ASQ-38.
