Michael Wondoloski enlisted in the USMC February 3rd, 1987 after an ugly break up with his girlfriend Stephanie Soper. (Now Stephanie Seo)
Calling his Recruiter GySgt. David Levenseller and explaining he was ready to go, he was sent to Springfield, Ma. For medical eval and processing. (MEPS)
2 WEEKS later he was at recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. (02/03/1987)
2nd Bn. Fox Co. PLT 2034
Upon completion of Recruit Training he was sent directly to Infantry Training School at Camp Geiger, NC.
Where he excelled in training to be a RIFELMAN 0311. (Expert)
Graduating at the top of his class he gratefully, received orders to Subic Bay in the Republic of the Philippines.
Given orders to Alpha Company Marine Barracks Starboard Platoon he was trained, and completed Security Force Training for the USN Base Subic Bay.
After a brief duty as a gate guard, he was sent to Okinawa Japan to Marine Jungle Operations School at Camp Schwab. (NTA)
Pfc. Wondoloski returned to Subic Bay and was assigned to the jungle operations branch.
He served as a radio man and carried a PRC77 RADIO and a Remington 870 Shotgun on jungle patrols.
Proving his patrolling and jungle skills he was promoted to LCPL. and given his own patrol team.
Delta 1 Charlie successfully under Wondoloski’s leadership had the highest success rate for the time they were active.
Credited and Developing new tactics to be more effective with increased apprehensions of intruders and insurgents. Delta 1 Charlie was revered by fellow Marines as a Special high-speed low drag team. Ditching their M16’s and heavy patrol loads to .45‘s and shoulder holsters.
This became the new patrolling standard up and to the time of his departure to the FMF in 1989.
After that tour of duty in the PI, LCpl. Wondoloski was sent to the historic 3rd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, Ca.
Fast Forward to his biggest accomplishment…
The Marine of the Quarter is a title earned by a Marine who stands out amongst their peers of privates, privates first class and lance corporals. Be a leader and demonstrate proficiency in his/her MOS.
In order to be nominated for the award, Marines must complete the Marine Corps Institute education program courses required for their rank. The Marine must Qualify Expert with the rifle and pistol.
Lance Corporal Wondoloski finished all these courses, as well as some others for the next rank,
Notably, Wondoloski also completed and passed the Reconnaissance Marine Indoctrination which qualified him for assignment to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion.
A board of Senior Marines judged the appearance, confidence and Marine Corps knowledge of the Marine submitted for the award. His Physical fitness, Combat fitness, and Expert rifle scores enabled Wondoloski to stand out above his peers on the board.
Lance Corporal Wondoloski was promoted to Corporal Meritoriously as the result of winning the 1st Marine Division Marine of the Quarter Board,
Corporal Wondoloski deployed with Lima Co. 3/5 TASK FORCE RIPPER and took part in combat operations in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Desert Shield / Storm.
Prior to the Ground Combat Action Cpl. Wondoloski was assigned as security (QRF) Maritime Interdiction Force supporting SEAL TEAM 3 onboard the USS.TRIPOLI. Conducting search and seizure of Iraqi Maritime Vessels and blockade violations.
Corporal Wondoloski was nicknamed Corporal Death by his fellow Marines (Zitney) and considered to be a hard charging leader and depended upon to be an integral cog in the wheel of Mission success.
