Military Experiences

Jan 2011 - Jun 2012
N4
Staff Officer
-Consolidated inputs from CRUDES Commanding Officers for Pre-INSURV briefs delivered to RADM Dave Thomas. Worked with executive leadership on the Norfolk, VA and Mayport, FL waterfront to ensure timely, accurate information flowed to key decision makers. -Supported the emergent correction of mission-limiting casualties to engineering, sensors, and electronics systems by bridging the gap between disparate military supply chains and ships operating within a 72 hour deployment window; in some cases this involved driving to Jacksonville, FL and back overnight to drop off parts that could not have reached the ship in time to affect their mission readiness. In other cases this involved reaching out to supply entities and becoming a vocal advocate for immediate action.
Jul 2008 - Jan 2011
USS Barry (DDG 52)
FPO/VBSSO/AWEPS
Held a variety of roles within the Weapons Dept. -Recruited and trained 24 team members to conduct Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO/VBSS). Certified team for overseas operations with an overall score of 99.6%, the highest on the ship during that training cycle. -Developed and executed a command training plan to ace the 2nd Fleet Force Protection Exercise. Passed 15/15 drills, joining an elite group of 12 commands (out of over 250) in the history of the exercise to pass with a perfect score. -Mentored a team of 5 new division officers within the Weapons Dept., developing individual action plans that facilitated Officer of the Deck and Surface Warfare Officer qualifications. -Shiphandler of the Year, 2010.
Jul 2006 - Jul 2008
VT-86
Student Naval Flight Officer
2 years of training to become a Naval Flight Officer, Commodore's List 2006/2007. Completed training up to the final phase of advanced jet aircraft before downing a flight physical due to eyesight requirements related to a pre-commissioning medical waiver. Had a chance to stay Navy so I went to sea on a Destroyer.
