Bio
SFC Murphy joined the Army in 1989 and retired from active duty in July 2012. Of their six children, three served on active duty from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. Two are currently in the reserves and one is still on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife enjoy all manner of outdoor activities, shooting, traveling, amusement parks, and just spending time together.

Infantry Platoon Sergeant
As an Infantry Platoon Sergeant I was responsible for the security of a military air base in the An Bar Province in Iraq from 2010 to 2011. Supervised the logistics, administration, training and maintenance activities of a forty man infantry platoon. Commanded task-organized elements in the platoon during tactical operations in combat zones overseas. Planned and executed numerous quartering parties, security forces in withdrawals, support elements in raids or attacks, and security patrols both on foot and in vehicles.

Infantryman
As an infantryman in the U.S. Army for nearly 23 years I held positions as a rifleman, machine gunner, fire team leader, squad leader, and platoon sergeant. I was DA selected to attend the U.S. Army Recruiter Course in 2000 and served as a Recruiter from August 2000 to December 2002. I was also DA selected in 2007 to attend the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School and served as a Drill Sergeant from July 2007 to July 2009. I have deployed overseas for combat operations for Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Dec. 1990 to May 1991. Then again for Operation Iraqi Freedom in Feb. 2003 to Jan. 2004, Dec. 2005 to Nov. 2006, and transition from Iraqi Freedom to New Dawn in July 2010 to June 2011. I retired from active duty in July 2012.

Senior Drill Sergeant
As a Drill Sergeant,I was responsible for instilling discipline, enforcing the Army Values and military standards while providing leadership, guidance and counseling for Drill Sergeants and Initial Entry Training Soldiers; responsible for ensuring all Training and Doctrine training guidelines are met and all Soldiers meet the Army Standards of a Soldier.
As a Senior Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training Brigade, I was overall responsible for the accountability, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of two Drill Sergeants; responsible for the training of 360 Initial Entry Training Soldiers per year, as well as accountability, serviceability of individual and organizational equipment valued in excess of $125,000.
