Assistant Platoon Leader
SMP Army Cadet from ASU assigned to unit. Platoon had old M-151 jeeps with M60 pedestal mount, right out of the old Rat Patrol movies. Great weekend training out in the desert, always had a boonie cookout Saturday night under the stars. Super bunch of vets, most of the mid and senior NCO's had been in Vietnam and a large number were regular Arizona law enforcement officers.

Infantry Squad Leader
Mech Inf squad leader (E-5 11B20), did the winter Reforger (Jan - Feb '79), flying thru McGuire to Lajes, then somewhere into the FRG, drawing Pomcus equip from Karsruhle while MG Patton watched and timed us, did the exercise and finally cleaned it up at Graf, loaded onto railcars. It was cold the entire exercise.....

Security Specialist, Clerk/Driver, Classified Document and Map Custodian in Bn Hq's section. Great assignment - some super people served here following Vietnam.

Assistant M60 Machine Gunner
Assigned to Rifle Platoon. Did guard duty week at Spandau Prison, completed French Commando course, and did one zone trip to WildChicken, first ride in CH-47, noisy but a whole lot better than humping for the next 2 weeks.

Operation Desert Shield/Storm
1st Bde (Tiger), 2AD from Ft Hood. I was the Bde S-1 until we deployed, then took the first RoRo (USNS Comet) as OIC of Super Cargo to Dharan and then Asst Bde S-3 (LNO, Plans and then Air) in Saudi and Kuwait until March 1991.
