I enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 in 1956. Served in Japan as an MP and a Brig Guard at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Separated in 1958, joined USMCR, followed by the National Guard. Entered the US Army as a 2nd Lt in 1966 with two tours in Vietnam tours. First in Special Forces Delta Project then rifle company commander in the 1st Cav Division. Duty stations included infantry and/or student assignments at Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg, and Ft. Eustis. Detailed to Public Affairs Officer in Korea, Presidio of San Francisco and Ft. Jackson. Finished off as Deputy Chief of Staff at Ft. Ord. Among my awards are Airborne wings, Ranger tab, Special Forces tab, CIB, Silver Star with 1 OLC, Six Bronze Stars (3 for valor), two Purple Hearts, Air Medal, Four ARCOMS (2 for valor).

1967-1968: XO of A-102 (Tien Phuoc); made captain and assigned as Airborne/Ranger Advisor to SVSF company, Project Delta. 1969-1970: Company commander of C Company 1st Bn 12 Cav Regt, 1st Cav Div; Assistant Operations Officer, 1st Bde, 1st Cav Div. My company went into Cambodia in May 1970 and was the last company out on June 29, 1970.
