Master Sergeant Steven Metcalf is the Lead Command Munitions Inspector for HQ U.S. Air Forces Europe, Air
Forces Africa Inspector General, Ramstein AB, Germany and is responsible for the evaluation of 68,000 USAFE
personnel across 23 units in 11 NATO countries. He directly affects 1,500 munitions personnel, evaluates
performance standards, maintenance controls, work procedures, munitions account condition, and identifies
deficiencies across 11 storage sites during Unit Effectiveness and Nuclear Surety Inspections. His direct support
provides the USAFE Commander and SHAPE Leadership with a validated combat capability assessment of USAFE
and NATO units through On-Site Visits, Unit Effectiveness, Nuclear Surety and Joint Safety and Security Inspection
reports.
Sergeant Metcalf was born in Ironton, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marine Corps as a Field Radio Operator on 18
October 1989. During this time he served in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait for Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Following
his enlistment in the Marines, he joined the Ohio Army National Guard as a Unit Supply Specialist and a Signal
Support Specialist. While there, he served as security for the 1996 Sumer Olympic game in Atlanta, Georgia. On 8
Nov 2001 he returned to active duty, when he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Munitions System
Technician. Since then, he has served in a wide number of positions as a Munitions Systems Technician,
culminating as Munition Systems Section Chief for the 388th Maintenance Squadron, Munitions Flight. As the
System’s Section Chief he led 201 personnel planning and directing munitions activities for 1.4 thousand line items
worth 55 million dollars in support of 22 F-16 and 26 F-35 aircraft. He currently serves as the Lead Command
Munitions Inspector, HQ USAFE AFARICA IG, at Ramstein AB, Germany from September 2017 until present.
