Nov 1990 - Jul 1995
Sec Detroit
Group DC1
November 1990, walked into to "Group Detroit", and met CWO Tom Tharrington... I saw a box of rock on the front desk to the door and kept looking at it...he laughed and said "that is not your desk...yours is here, but you won't be there much..." and he was correct. For the next five years I was on the road from Station Tawas, MI, to Astebuelua , OH, and back again, not to mention the bay class tugs and their respective barges..as well as the local buoy tenders and oops, two light houses...I lived in my welding truck pretty much, but single and hey...for five years I lived at 15 small boat stations, repairing everything from housing to piers to patrol boats to engines, to RHIs, and light houses... INDEPENDENT DUTY at it's best for five years...Then the detailer called. "Do you exist?" Oops
Aug 1988 - Nov 1990
DC1/Repair Chief
Repair Chief : Reporting aboard I was CGI, the enemy. CO reading my achievement medal put an end to that. James Bond... but still..Putting my life back together, I pounded steel, taught a DC3 (Wilcox), and an FN (DC striker) (Aughtencapamp) how to replace 21 doors and hatches, and got them an achievement medal ... which they so much deserved. They in turn kept me from going insane during a very tough time in my life. I also had the likes of MKC Emillio Tarrango and EMCS Mark Horne ("The Eight"), and Ensign Thomas Nelson, (CDR, deceased RIP), to steer me towards CHIEF , instead of oblivion... then ordered me to report on the book... (I was back in school) lol CWO Dangreau reported aboard and said he didn't give a damn about my past...the EO gave me a new lease on life...and future...
May 1985 - Jan 1989
CCGD 13 OIL/OLE (CGI/CGIS)
USCG Special Agent
Jun 1988 - Jul 1988
Inspector/procurement offier
Inspector/Procurement officer: USCGC POLAR STAR (WAGB 10) I did the Damage control thing, of course, but I was good with computers and software pertaining to inventory/manhour sheets, and resource usage/depletion... My boss was a BMCM, and at first he didn't like me, because I had just left CGI/CGIS (he hated spooks). But fast enough I showed him discrepancies and that got his attention quite quickly...In showing him over $500,000.00 questionable expenditures... He actually grabbed me by the labels and said "ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!" As a heart attack Master Chief... (and never looked away from his eyes)... He, made a phone call and 10 minutes later all worked stopped. Next thing I know, he comes back to me and says "man, I want you to go over everything you can, find everything you can...
