Bio

As a Cewchief in the 114th AVN Combat Helicopter Company, we were responsible for taking troops out to the field for combat. We would drop troops into an area where the NVA was supposed to be, and then pick them up after their operation was over. In many cases, this required us to not only pick up troops but also wounded and dead troops. As we would enter and leaving the AO many times we were shot. Death was continually around me daily. After seeing all this blood, guts and death daily it gets tough but that was our job. I tried not to think about it too much but it was hard to do… especially due to the constant Rocket and Mortar attacks at night and seeing another service-members killed while I was deployed. I didn’t realize it right away, however after a year or two from discharging from the Army; it became apparent that my time in uniform and Vietnam changed how I saw the world. When I was in Vietnam my senses operated at maximum capacity and effectiveness. I was always on guard. My family and friends tell me that I still act like I am in Vietnam.
