Artillery Crewman
When first arrived in the battery, I worked in the ammo section, securing the ammo dump and helping to deliver 105mm rounds and fuses to the guns. Moved to a gun section after a couple of months. Worked as a cannon crewman for several weeks, cutting powder charges, setting fuses, and as a loader. Spent a two-week temporary assignment with a 105 crew stationed on Montezuma at LZ Bronco. Tasked with direct fire coverage of the NE perimeter of the LZ. Moved to Asst. Gunner position. Spent two months in the battery rear area while recovering from an injury sustained during a fire mission. Acted as battery clerk during that time. Took the Sgt's exam while in Duc Pho, passed, and was returned to my gun section as section chief. Spent the duration of my tour there.
