AC1 ~ Air Traffic Controller
CATCC Air Operations Supervisor. Responsible for the timely updating of the Air Operations status boards; coordinating changes in flight schedules and ready alerts with the CO, Air Ops and CDC.
Jul 1981 - Jun 1985
AC1 ~ Air Traffic Controller
Control Tower Operator and Facility Watch Supervisor.
Apr 1978 - Feb 1979
PH1 ~ Photographer
Undermanned photo lab. Was the combined Photo Division Officer, Leading Chief and LPO when tied up to the quay wall. An LDO was pulled from NAS to be the DO when underway. The "machines" were taking over the processing, and I was on overload with military bureaucracy as a freshly clothed E6. Time to "take a break", and went "civilian" at EAOS. I went to Parker Truck Driving School (courtesy of the GI Bill), and drove truck over-the-road before re-entering the Navy in January of 1981 at Oakland Ca, AFEES; followed by short stint at Air Traffic Control Class A school (cross-rated: PH1 to AC1) at Millington, Tennessee (NAS Memphis).
May 1975 - Apr 1978
PH2 ~ Photographer
Photographer in a small, three man photo lab. My only official "shore duty" as a PH. I say "official", because for a year, I was routinely X-ferred to DET Bravo to spend time at sea on a 200 foot oceanographic survey ship bobbing up and down along the infamous Cortes Bank off the San Diego Coast. There; I received on-the-job training in the art and technique of involuntary bulimia nervosa, while paying never-ending homage to the "Porcelain God"..... not a good start to my West Coast Career.
