I worked for Rear Admiral Paul A Peck with Carrier Group Three with Fred McDonald who became my best friend from Upper Peninsula Michigan. We drove him around in a black staff car with blue flags with two white stars where ever he wanted to go. The three Filipinos’ on the staff did the cooking. We had the Best duty ever. Then after 18 months he said "This staff duty was cramping our style so he was going to do us a favor and send us to the regular NAVY. I was sent to the USS San Jose and Fred to the USS Shasta both home ported at The Alameda NAS. In reality we were too wild for staff duty.
