Bio
COL Hayes served for 33 years as an Infantryman in the United States Army. He began his career as a Infantryman in 1986 at Ft. Benning, GA. He was commissioned from ROTC in 1989 and served in a variety of command and staff assignments in the PA Army National Guard in a full time capacity including Recon Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer, Stryker Battalion Commander, Garrison Commander, Director of Domestic Operations, and Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) Commander. He has operational deployments to Kosovo (BNXO/2003) and Iraq (Stryker BN CDR/2009). His awards and decorations include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Silver Oak Leaf Cluster), Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Basic Airborne, and Air Assault badges. He retired in 2019 as a Colonel.
He continues to serve in the Army as a Department of the Army Civilian working for the US Army Surgeon General in the National Capital Region.
He attended The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a BS degree in Agricultural Sciences in 1990. In addition to his BS degree, Mr. Hayes earned a MEd from Penn State in 1997 and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in 2012.
COL Hayes lives in Berks County, Pennsylvania with his wife Jill and their two beagles Cletus and Lily.
