Bio
My Father served in the Navy during the Korean War, but he never talked about it, I am still trying to find out more about his service, other than being stationed at Bermuda during his time. I know he was an aircraft mechanic. I signed up for the service 2 weeks after my 18 b'day. delayed entry.
Military Experiences
Nov 1983 - Jul 1985
Phase Team Leader
This would be my final duty assignment and longest. I enjoyed this time in Germany as I did get out to see more of the country. I made more friends, that felt like family. Sure the winters were a little more challenging during this time, but was good. This would be the one assignment I wish I had during my entire time in the service.
Nov 1982 - Nov 1983
Crew Chief
Sort time here at Ft. Bliss but very enjoyable. I go to see things that only a few people get to see in a life. I did have a scare while here, and learned a valuable lesson. When working with someone, don't always think they will do what they are supposed to, especially when it comes to safety. I had an explosive cartridge explode in my hand when installing because the armor person did not disconnect the battery on the aircraft he was to do. Luckily, nothing was lost, as in my hand or fingers. Pure luck.. I was present during upgrades with the AH-1S Production model. Bell Helicopter has come to install much of the equipment. Our hangar was an old B52 Hangar, so needless to say, we could have flown in the hangar, but they wouldn't let us..

Phase Team Member
This was my first time in Germany, It was interesting. I did not get out much. Schweinfurt was lovely. Most of my time was spent working in Production control, as a clerk, ensuring Maintenance schedules were kept and aircraft availability reports. Worked on early models of the AH-1S
Feb 1980 - Oct 1981
Phase Team Member
Started as a Phase team member, but had worked my way to Crew Chief on my own aircraft. Learned how to fly during time here. Miss the night flying over San Francisco and training in the desert. Did learn a valuable lesson, sleeping in the front seat of a Cobra Helicopter overnight is NOT comfortable. It was enjoyable to be part of the testing of the Bradley Vehicle, and getting to see early Apache Helicopters that came in during some testing phases. I also got to see the testing of the A-10 aircraft.. nothing like a aircraft built around a gun.. We worked on AH-1G model helicopters.. the first model Cobra..
