Bio
Spent most of my career working in telecommunications in positions from entry level at what was then Southern Bell, through Northern Telecom, Williams Communications, and finally NextiraOne Federal ending as a Senior Manager. After telecom played out for me I sold firearms for Sports Authority and worked baggage with TSA, both relatively briefly compared to the telecom decades. Married since 1977.
Military Experiences
Jul 1972
EN2 in A Gang in Engineering Div.
With the USS Piedmont at anchor in Danang Harbor I served as the boat snipe on the LCM 6 to run into the same pier I worked out of two years earlier on the Tien Sha peninsula. Everything was gone except the deep water pier concrete. I was left by myself for an hour or so with just a service Colt and two extra magazines. I was the only round eye around and couldn't help but wonder just what the hell we accomplished there. I am proud of my service but people I knew died over there and to see it all simply abandoned was disappointing. Going home and taking flak for having been there didn't help my attitude much either. It was decades ago but some of it is still fresh in my mind.
Jun 1969 - Jun 1970
Chief Engineer
Managing all aspects of the equipment on board and supervising the Snipes on the boat. Also stood Conning PO Watches navigating along the coast of I Corps. Never once received permission from the River Duty Officer to return fire in the entire year and a day I was in-country.
