Richard “Rick” Martin Bio
Rick Martin is a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). In his 22 year naval career, he served on 5 different war ships. He served as Command Master Chief of the nuclear powered USS Arkansas (CGN-41) from 1982 -1983. On two of these ships, the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) and the USS Paul (DE-1080) he served off the coast of Vietnam (1965/66 & 1972/73 respectively) directing Naval Gun Fire Support in support of U.S. Army and Marine Corps troops and the South Vietnamese Army against North Vietnamese Aggressors. For this action, Master Chief Martin was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and the South Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry – with Silver Star. Following his naval career, Rick worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 20 years in various Program Management leadership positions including Acting Director of Government Systems Advanced Programs where he directed Government Systems Advance Technology Research and Development and MILSTAR Satellite Communications Programs. Since fully retiring in 2006, Rick has been actively supporting Veterans in the Cedar Rapids metro area and the Iowa City VA Hospital. He has volunteered over 4,000 hours serving Veterans and has been awarded two State of Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Awards and was the 2010 Cedar Rapids Metro Veterans Council “Veteran of the Year”. Rick is married to the former Kathleen (Kathy) Burton of Fort Dodge, Iowa. They reside in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Served as Team Leader for ships Combat System damage reporting for underwater explosive schock tests.
