Reported as QM striker but thought the Boatswains Mates had the better job. I was in 1st division anyway, chipping, painting,… The first time laundry came back after I had expressed my desire to strike for BM my clothes came back pressed and on my bunk. Made BM 3 first time. Ended up leading petty officer for the division - all the other rated BMs who were there ahead of me, with the exception of BMC Wright the division Chief, had either left the service or had been transferred to Swift boats.
