Nathan M. Banks, Sr. is the founder and Managing Partner of McDowell Information Group, Public Relations LLC. He is a highly experienced public relations professional dedicated to helping guide companies through strategic communication initiatives, crisis management and community outreach at both the national and local levels. With more than 30 years of experience in military public affairs, Banks has handled numerous high profile communication initiatives including the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, the Fort Hood, Texas, tragedy in 2009, and three Medal of Honor ceremonies at the White House, among many others. He is especially adept at handling high profile media events and has often taken the lead role when there is no leeway for failure.
Banks was the Chief of National Outreach for the Office of the Chief, Army Reserve where he established partnerships with military and veteran service organizations to coordinate information and outreach efforts. Banks led several key partnership events including the Association of United States Army conventions, the National Urban League Conference, the National Disaster Conference, Army Birthday Celebrations, and numerous NFL, MLB and NBA events. Prior to joining the Office of the Chief, Army Reserve, Banks served as a media relations specialist with the U.S. Army Office of the Chief of Public Affairs where he served as an official U.S. Army spokesperson. During his rotation at the Pentagon, he was selected for the U.S. Army’s highly competitive Training with Industry (TWI) Program. During his TWI stint, he worked in the New York City offices of Fleishman-Hillard, one of the leading PR agencies in the industry, where he performed the functions of a senior account manager with distinction. Banks worked on a promotion and community relations campaign for AT&T, and an international product recall for a division of Bumble Bee Foods.
While serving in the military, Banks was deployed several times in a lead-public affairs role. He served as the Chief of Outreach at the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul, Afghanistan; as the Public Affairs Director in Amman, Jordan; and as the Public Affairs Officer for the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq (MNSTC-I). He also deployed in a public affairs support capacity to the Combined Joint Special Operation Task Force at Camp Butmir in Sarajevo, Bosnia; and to the Hurricane Mitch recovery efforts with U.S. Southern Command in Honduras.
