Bio
I grew up in Michigan, joined at 18, did 4 years with SERE and spent 5 years overseas after getting out, as a dependent. I worked in MWR for a bit and got into ropes/challenge course work. Once back stateside I worked in wilderness therapy as a field guide off and on for 11 years and got my BA in Ed Psych. I now run a survival school near Denver and live off-grid in a cabin I've been building.
Military Experiences
Jan 1991 - Aug 1994
SERE Instructor
My duties involved teaching Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape techniques to air crew members and others that may find themselves behind enemy lines and in need of them.
Our training consisted of global survival techniques for every environment and was based on the 5 basic needs of a survivor: 1) Signaling and Recovery; 2) Personal Protection (with 3 lines of defense: Clothing/Equipment, Shelter, and Fire); 3) Sustenance (Water and Food); 4) Travel Techniques; and 5) Health. We then learned how to modify these needs for tactical situations (Evasion, Resistance, and Escape).
I was the sole female in my flight for the duration of my military time.
