U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs · October 21, 2014 · Today's Veteran of the Day is Michael Homcha. Michael served in the U.S. Air Force, mainly in Vietnam. Michael was assigned to the 6994th Security Squadron. The air crews with the support of their ground crews, flew in unarmed WWII vintage EC-47 aircraft and earned the motto, "Unarmed, Alone, and Unafraid." This squadron was responsible for locating and identifying the enemy using airborne radio direction finding (ARDF) techniques and collecting intelligence information in support of ground combat commanders. Michael was an airborne radio direction finding specialist and participated in 137 combat missions, amassing over 1100 hours of aerial combat flight time. He flew out of Pleiku and Phu Cat, Vietnam from 1969-1970.

Highly Classified....pick up V.C., North Vietnamese, and Pathet Lao morse code transmissions. Copy the messages and get "fixes" on the transmitter location....unit was responsible for 95% + of all B-52 strikes in SEA, and was the most highly decorated USAF unit in SEA.
