Ship's Criminal Investigtor

Received reports from Master-at-Arms patrolmen, investigated crime scenes, collected evidence, performed testing of evidence substances or forwarded evidence material to US Army Crime Lab as needed, interviewed victims and witnesses, interviewed suspects, wrote reports, appeared at XO's Mast, appeared at Captain's Mast as necessary. Occasionally conferred with NIS Office Afloat agent.

EW Watch Supervisor
Performed all of the usual EW watchstander duties, including operation of the AN/WLR-1e ESM Receiver, AN/ULQ-6b Deception Repeater, and associated antenna controls for each system. Reported contacts to EW Supervisor. As supervisor, operated NTDS console in Supervisor Mode, made log entries, and reported contacts to CIC Watch Officer. Trained junior watchstanders.

Western Pacific
Performed duties of Ship's Criminal Investigator. This deployment was shortened due to damage received during collision with tanker M/V Fortune on 5 April 1979. Ranger was to relieve USS Constellation (CV-64), which instead had to wait for relief from USS Midway (CV-41). Ranger continued after repairs in Yokusaka, but returned early to San Diego.
