Recent Activity  -

Bio

A recent graduate of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am a 20-year US Navy veteran, serving as a passive sonar operator, I positioned submarines for most of my career. I developed skills working with geospatial data and environmental variables to optimize hold time and improve tracking accuracy. Since leaving the Navy, I have gained experience in creating maps and using them to assign cell tower sectors to appropriate jurisdictions for emergency call processing. As part of the program I participated in at UNCC, we worked with local community leaders to effect change of the public perceptions of the Hidden Valley Neighborhood of Charlotte. I also surveyed area residents to learn about their feeling about recent light rail development adjacent to their neighborhoods. My interests include applications of GIS, cartography, remote sensing, as well as regional and community planning. I desire to work toward finding the win-win when it comes to keeping people in their homes while improving their neighborhood’s. Charlotte’s Hidden Valley community holds a special place in my heart. Once the place of dreams, it became a nightmare and is now working to reinvent itself, while developers see dollar signs. Social justice cannot be left solely to community organization and activists. Our communities are extensions of our homes. They are integral to our lives and a mirror of who we are! #geographer #humangeography #planningforpeople #aginginplace #remotesensing #usnavyretired #sosus #mcm #localizationandtracking #maps #surtass #antisubmarinewarfare #iap2 #exogeography
