Bio
After I got out of the Marines in January 1977, I realized that being in the armed forces really didn’t mean too much when it came to applying for work. Nobody back then treated veterans with much respect. It wasn’t a good experience. At least today a lot has changed for the better for these younger veterans. I am glad to see that is finally happening.
Military Experiences
Aug 1976 - Jan 1977
Squad Leader
After serving on Marine Detachment USS John F Kennedy and Marine Detachment USS Nimitz CVN-68 I reported to Camp Geiger on 2 August 1976. Unfortunately at that time I realized that many small unit leaders at that time including my Company Commander we’re totally detached, dis interested, arrogant and genuinely not interested in our well being. When I went to the career planner for an MOS reenlistment change nothing was even moved forward. By the middle of December 1976 I made a decision to separate from active duty. I was a 22 year old Sgt. E-5 at the time. I spent the next 42 years as a Commercial Truck Driver retiring a few years ago. I often think about what our Drill Instructors told us at Parris Island explaining to us before we graduated that we would find UN-SAT MARINES. SO TRUE!
